Spring Overnight Trip

Without a doubt, one of the club’s most enjoyable activities tend to be our overnight ventures where we head out on scenic roads and put a few miles on our trusty MGs. We aim for two overnight trips per year – one on a weekend in the spring and one during the week in the fall.

We think we’ve come up with a winner for this spring. We will meet at the Starbucks in Leesburg which is at 1011 Edwards Ferry Road at 10 AM, Saturday, May 25th. From there we’ll head somewhat north and west of the metro area and finish up in the quaint li􏰁le town of Mercersburg, PA. We’ve found very nice roads for our route which involves about two and a half hours of driving and is less than 80 miles in total distance. Mercersburg is a small and somewhat sleepy town but one that is bucolic and interes􏰀ng at the same 􏰀me. For lodging we have reserved rooms at two very nice, historical establishments – the Mercersburg Inn and the James Buchannon Hotel. They offer a range of options and prices with the James Buchannon Hotel being less expensive. They are only a few blocks apart and both have very nice accommodations and dining rooms. Also, both are offering the club a 20% discount on rooms for the night of Saturday, May 25th.

The overall plan will be to arrive in the mid-afternoon timeframe, relax for a few hours, and then get together for dinner. At this point we haven’t yet determined which restaurant we’ll use but feel certain the fare will be memorable. On Sunday morning we’ll meet after breakfast and head back to town via a different route that will take us over the Catoctin Mountains. We expect to be back home by mid-afternoon on Sunday.

This should not be a particularly taxing drive for your MG but we still recommend checking the more basic things –tire pressures, fluid levels, etc. beforehand.
